About Us

How did it all begin?

Cactus Coliving started with an María's historic family house in Valle de San Lorenzo that was closed for over a decade. In 2020, during the pandemic, María returned to Tenerife to work remotely and decided to bring that house back to life, turning it into our very first coliving in 2021.

From there, the project kept growing: in 2024, a former kindergarten and historic hostel in San Sebastián de La Gomera became our second home, full of stories and local soul. And in 2025, after a year of paperwork and a lot of patience, a ruined house in María’s favorite village, Adeje, was transformed into our third coliving. Different houses, different histories but always the same idea: turning forgotten spaces into real homes for community living.

María

Founder of Cactus Coliving
"After years working in the corporate world, I returned to my childhood home in Tenerife during the pandemic. I was working remotely, missing office life… but falling in love with a slower, more intentional way of living
With tourism at a standstill, I decided to open up my family house to a few remote workers. That small experiment quickly turned into something bigger: a purpose-driven coliving project rooted in Canarian culture, community, and sustainability.
These days, when I’m not in Cactus, you’ll probably find me climbing, trail running, surfing, free diving, doing CrossFit or trying any sport outdoors."

Rebeca

La Gomera Community Manager
"Hooola chicos !
I’m Rebeca, a Galician girl who has been living in La Gomera for the past six years. I first came to this beautiful island by chance—but I stayed for love.I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people and sharing stories and experiences. So when María reached out to invite me to join Cactus, I didn’t think twice. Being part of this project has allowed me to meet inspiring people, especially digital nomads from all over the world. Every day, I feel grateful to know that wherever I go, there’s a place I can call home and a family waiting to welcome me.
Let’s explore the island together and share the magic of La Gomera — it’s even better when we experience it side by side."

Raquel

Tenerife Community Manager
"Hola! , I’m Raquel Maitri, and I’ve recently joined Cactus Coliving in Tenerife as Community Manager.
I decided to join because I truly enjoy connecting people, organizing events, and building community — and this place, its location, and the amazing people here make it the perfect space to do that. I’m also passionate about teaching Spanish language and culture, yoga, meditation, Latin dance, and promoting healthy living. I look forward to sharing all of this with you.
Nos vemos pronto!"
